during our MABL game last nite it was called to my attention by the catcher that the batter who just got a hit in the 6th inning had used an illegal bat (a -4). I told him there was no bat rule and he said that there was a new one this year to use a -3 (similar to HS/Coll). Thankfully the Commish drove up right about that time to verify that this was correct. We called the batter out and placed the runners back to the previous bases. So that we are all on the same page how do you want us to administer this new rule? Do we check bats like HS/Coll or say nothing till the infraction is pointed out to us? Also any other new rules we should know about? ?? Ron Rodriguez

The only way to curb the use of illegal bats is to check them. However sometimes this is difficult. The way we will handle is as follows. Tell the managers prior to the game (at the plate meeting would be a great time) that anything other than a -3 bat is not allowed. Infractions will result in an out being called.
